The Kernow Foil Classic 2023

The Kernow Foil Classic 2023

Posted by Christopher Burke on

October 21st was a day for the U.K. foiling history books when the Kernow Foil Classic, a Prone and Wing surf style competition went off at Daymer Bay, Cornwall. The vision was to run a legitimate foil competition with judges following criteria which favoured fast and aggressive top to bottom wave riding, with the best rider progressing through a heat ladder to a final in both disciplines, all at one location. And holy moly, the 21st October delivered an epic, eventful and unforgettable day for the foiling community.
Firstly, thank you to everyone that cam along with so much positive energy. The standard was crazy high, the winners deserved their places, the conditions went against the odds and delivered gold, but for us the standout take away was how good the vibe was amongst everyone there. Stoked to see everyone buzzing on the sport, the spot and what we were doing on the day.
With an uncomfortably early riders briefing, the day kicked off before the sun came up so again thank you to everyone that got involved from dawn until dusk and stayed flexible around a changing format for the event. It couldn’t have been a harder forecast to call with so much change and uncertainty but good old Kernow allowed for the full event to run from wing to prone and back to wing again.
Have a flick through the next edition of the Foiling Mag for a full run down of the day heat by heat, check out our edit for the highlights and most importantly a big congratulations to the following…
