Easterly Dream Sessions

What a run of easterlies, it's been truly epic here!
It's always fun when the wind blows 'the wrong way', the usual spots feel different and you get to enjoy those rare hidden gems again.
I'd cause local upset if I started shouting about details of where the fun's been happening, but if you need some guidance here in the SW next easterly and into long 5 minute long snowboard laps in unbroken swell welcome to give me a shout.

Looking ahead the forecast is a little duller for a while, but if the northerlies they're teasing in the long range forecast do come through expect more excitement from this camp, thats the golden direction for our north coast estuaries. Welcome to give me a shout if you want to get involved, try some new kit or get some coaching. I'm running sessions daily.

On that - bank holiday ahead. It seems like the forecast isn't going to deliver anything too special but my eye in on a possible late monday wing, and the low wind and light rain on sunday and monday morning would make for a good first tow session to learn to foil or tow in.

Coaching Corner

Adding some meat to my newsletters I'm going to aim to add some coaching pointers.
Keeping my first one brief:

Wing handling on a wave

[When wing foiling] To aid getting the wing to stay behind you when using the flagging handle and riding swell - 3 key points are important:

1. Angle - riding a few degrees 'off the wind' is easier than directly downwind.
2. Speed - the faster you ride the better the wing will stay planted behind you. If it's in your way, try to ride faster.
3. Height / Keep the wing low - when the wind gets under the wing it will lift up and blow downwind, instead push the wing down onto the water so the wind hits its top side and pushes it down. When the trailing edge grips the water it all gets easier.

Funky stuff going on in the world of big air kiting at the mo. The world record for highest kite jump has been beaten several times this year already, but the debate on what is a 'legit' kite jump has been raging after Yucel Paralik claimed he hit 62.9m in light breezes last week.
People didn't believe it, Gong milked it, Yucel proved it and ever since it's been a hot topic on where this stunt stands in the kite world.
Does it count if the rider uses a thermal updraft?
Can it count if the normal trackers don't register it?
When does kiting become paragliding?
How big are Yucel's balls to hang up there held only by Gong stitching?

Each to their own.
Pretty sure anyone wild enough to sit that high under a kite deserves kudos.
